Is there any way to see if an email was sent to either mine or my husband's old fish account over a year after we closed our email accounts. We were recently told an extremely important email was sent in late April 2008.

It is exceptionally important to us to see if a particluar email was sent. A person has claimed they sent an email, but did say to which account but did not receive a delivery failure notice. They had been using the new email account for that year.

Needless to say we did not receive it. We would like to give this person the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately we really do not believe her.

I haven't heard of emails going missing like snail mail letters in years.

If an email was sent after you closed an account, it would bounce back to the sender with an error message, such as "delivery error: This user doesn't have a surefish.co.uk account".

Because you no longer had the account, it would not have been forwarded to you, and you would not have had any notification that it had bounced back. You would have no knowledge at all of the email - the sender, however, would know very clearly that you had not received it. If you closed the account before that date, then it was impossible for you to have known about the email. If the sender insists that you received it, they are lying, and if you have proof that the email address ceased to exist before that date, you can prove they are lying.

As far as I can remember the emails were pinging back 9 months after we closed the account, but fish give a grace period of approximately 6 months where you can still have access to pick them up.

This person had been using the new email for over a year. We would like to think that they are not lying. To call someone is a nasty accusation. I like to give the benfit of the doubt, but having trouble this time.

Surely emails can just disappear in the system.
