Shiela: "If Peter Pillinger is coming into Plymouth & Exeter District, Tony, what is happening to Paul Smith?"
Nothing. Paul is the superintendent of the Plymouth Mission Circuit. Pete will become Chair of the Plymouth and Exter District, in succession to John Carne. Unless other decisions are being made in the Plymouth Mission Circuit, Paul will continue as their super for some time.
If you like Paul, you'll probably like Pete, too - they're on similar theological wavelengths, and Pete is a pretty good preacher.

| Dear Sheila, How did your sermon go? I was thinking of you yesterday. God bless, With love, Lesley xx
Just for today, dear Lord, let me realise that there is nothing that we cannot handle together - and may I pray the same prayer tomorrow.....

| Dear all, I'm very pleased today. After a while searching, I think I may have found a new spiritual director. God does have such a strange way of working, doesn't He? We were at church yesterday and the vicar was away. In his place a retired cleric came to take the communion service. He's quite well known and has written many books in the field of healing. I ended up sitting next to his wife, with whom I used to work (she was a physiotherapist). I've known him vaguely, and (obviously) her better, for some years - and I mentioned to her that I was looking - and she said that he did undertake direction. He wouldn't have been an obvious choice for me until the communion service itself, when not knowing our conversation (clearly), he administered the bread to me with the laying on of hands - something he did not do to others present (I watched thereafter)... This was without him knowing anything particular about my church situation or (other than general "gossip") my personal situation. As many of you know, God has a way of speaking to me through the act of communion itself. Maybe it's the one time He knows I won't ignore Him and I phoned this chap up yesterday afternoon. He was, much to my surprise, delighted to be asked - and we are meeting up for the first time next week. The chance to have someone to walk alongside me will be very welcome indeed after the paths in the desert.... Wish us well in our exploration! God bless, With love as ever, Lesley xx (and Desmond, who is enjoying the warm weather here, and made a point of watching the "Tall ships" last weekend)
Just for today, dear Lord, let me realise that there is nothing that we cannot handle together - and may I pray the same prayer tomorrow.....

| Yes, Lesley, we certainly wish you well in your exploration! Your life sounds really exciting (and after the desert experience). It is lovely to hear your delight in it and giving God the glory. I am so glad. More than a week ago now, the service on Wheat & Weeds went well. A friend suggested a piece of turf with a variety of `weeds` growing in it. Well, I didn`t have time to cut turf and I didn`t want to ignore the countryside code of not picking wild flowers. However, our static holiday caravan is situated on a very small pitch which yielded no less than fourteen different flowers - one of which was a beautiful pinky-purple wild orchid! There was clover, lady`s slipper, heather, this orchid, and lots more. I picked just one of each and arranged them in a little glass vase. The children`s address (y p) was lively and the sermon developed the theme nicely. Some lovely hymns sprang naturally from the readings. So I was well pleased. Thank you. A farmer`s wife later left a message on my answer phone, saying how interesting (she actually said exciting!) she had found it, how she is trying to develop a meadow of wild flowers on her farm and how blessed I must be with butterflies! Another very happy occasion for me was when I attended the validictory service for two of our ministers, one of whom is moving to Newton Abbot and the other to the chaplaincy at Shebbear. I fond another mesage on the answer-phone, asking me to read at this service. It was the moving passage about the death of Moses. I am always touched by it. Imagine my surprise later when after calling upon both ministers in turn, the super called me out. He presented me with a beautiful arrangement of flowers

| AND sang my praises to the congregation, which was rather embarassing. He said they really are very grateful for all the work I`ve done and for the way I`ve done it - mostly in the old folks` homes. Then he invited me to speak. The other two had prepared what to say. I had to speak off the cuff and I was surprised at being able to express just what I wanted to say. Addressing all those people from around our large circuit was a great privilege. And I felt a great love for them. I am so glad, as well as surprised, to be a preacher. It is wonderful to help people worship God. Tony, I should have remembered John Carne is Super` in that District. He has crossed the border and spoken at Synod in our District. Good news that Paul Smith will probably remain. Also that Peter Pillinger is a good chap. I have read the changes in the Recorder now. Do you know Steve Wild? He is coming back to Cornwall as District Chair. How long before you have to think about moving? How do you feel about that? Sorry if I`ve rambled. It`s all been so overwhelming. I din`t think anybody knew what I was doing really. Love to all. I feel a bit of a plonker now!
Sheila

Hi, Shiela
Glad you had such a wonderful time in the valedictory service. It's often a big surprise to discover just how much "only doing my job" really achieves for people.
Yes, I do know Steve Wild - he's one of the biggest and loveliest loonies in the Methodist ministry! He's a great guy, and will be a delight to all whom he serves. Together with Clarence the Frog.
My reinvitation comes up at the September Circuit meeting. I've offered to stay for a few more years - so now we'll see whether I've annoyed enough people to be thrown out!
