And God prospered those who complained to God (Abraham) and God said the gifts they would get from God if they had faith in God by obeying God's commands or believed these gifts would happen (and kept beleiving).

So, I think it's right that God punishes wrong. These days people are more awair. And I think that bad things can happen to good people because we [people] are a mixture of bad and good, and our communities are also - so it could be somebody elses bad ways that we pay the price for. Yet God blesses goodness and faith in God's [only good fair] provision. And our freedom enables this.

What do you others think about God's justice? I think it's fair and necessary, and it makes me want to help out!

I Am Back!

Man the trenches I am back!:D I had to re-register as I had changed my e-mail address and couldn't remember which one I used when I went under the name 'floopowder'!

Why 'newleprechaun' you might be asking. Well I now have dual Irish/British citizenship! One is entitled to apply for Irish citizenship if you had an Irish grandparent as I did. Actually I detested my grandmother as she spiritually abused me as a child, but I was very fond of her mother. When I visited Ireland a few years ago I had an immediate rapport with the Irish. So when my little sister became an Irish citizen I decided to go for it too!

Since I last posted here we now have a beautiful little granddaughter, Amelie Rose, who was born on May 4th.

Christian Aid Week

I haven't heard from our organisers yet how our overall totals compare with last year, but we did have quite a mixed response on the doorstep.
How did others get on? Do you think people were more generous because of current disasters in Myanmar and China, or more stingy because of rising prices here?
It would be interesting to share experiences

Faith and labels

It's been quiet on the boards again, hope everyone is ok!
Earlier this week, I was talking to a guy who said that he attended church up until about university time when Sunday became the only day that he had to study and so he stopped going. The result was that he didn’t start attending church again regularly until 40 years later. Now he is an active member of his church and very committed. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Yet in talking to him, he stated the whole time he was away from the church, his faith was always there and he always considered himself to still be a Christian. I must admit that I initially thought to myself, how can you say that – although I didn’t say that to him!

Is his faith the same as someone who attended church regularly during those 40 years? I believe his faith would have been the richer for attending church but is it our place to comment on it? Should it be our place if the guy feels his faith was ok during this time? Or should we just focus on pointing people in the right direction to grow in their faith? I guess I am just grateful that he is attending a church again and actively involved in it and its community work.

(It made me also think about how we can label people as either Christians or non-Christians).

Revival

Just wondered what peoples' thoughts and experiences of revival are? Do you think that it is something that is totally just an act of God's will irrespective what we may pray and hope for. Or can we can play a part in bringing it about by praying and fasting for example?

I ask this as having watched on God TV on satellite some 'interesting' clips of the Todd Bentley revival in Lakeland, Florida. Not quite sure what I make of that - anyone else have any thoughts on this if you have heard about it?

Can we agree five statments about our collective faiths?

I have been around on this forum for a while now, and have seen a lot of diffrance in faith bewteen people and what id like to see is how much common ground there is so:-

Can we agree six statements about our collective faith?
Being Filled with the Holy Spirit

I wonder what other people think about this - and if anyone has had an experience they would describe as "being filled with the Holy Spirit"?

Is it primarily an experience, something that happens as a result of prayer, something conferred upon us at baptism, or something else? Is every Christian filled with the Holy Spirit automatically because of their faith? Or is it an extra added dimension that we have to ask for?

I have been to a few charismatic meetings lately where there has been much prayer and assurance that "the Spirit is here", with various manifestations such as crying, shouting out, singing/praying in tongues etc and I just wonder what all you lovely people at surefish think about it?

Which law is Paul referring to in Romans 7?

It seems to me that "To which law does Paul refer in Romans 7?" is too vast a topic for a one post reply ... discuss: To which law does Paul refer in Romans 7??

Greenbelt 2008

Hi,

If you fancy helping out Christian Aid for a few hours each day at the Greenbelt festival, in return for a free entrance ticket, please email pwebster@christian-aid.org.uk

Volunteer places are limited and some positions will require a CRB check.
