We need the right balance between hope and realism. He will inherit the worst set of problems of any President - economic crisis, two wars, climate change, etc. But he does at least seem to have a sense of vision for what a truly united United States could be - if he can persuade the naysayers to listen and come along instead of waiting for him to not deliver the Promised Land and say "Told you so!"

My prayers have been answered, certainly - no "pit bull with lipstick" waiting in the wings, and a President with an IQ!

I've just had an email from my daughter-in-law saying she now feels "almost proud to be American"
I hope and pray that she and many others will not be disappointed.
As you say Tony, realism needed too.

In terms of prayers being answered, I guess it depends on what you were praying for!  Ultimately, I am sure we all prayed the right person be elected.

Whilst being a McCain supporter, I would be more than happy if it turns out Obama makes a wonderful president.  It reminds me a little bit of when Blair came to power, but with a much bigger reaction.  Like Tony B has said, some realism is needed as he faces a tremendous challenge, great expectations and indeed our continued prayers.  Because Obama is relatively new on the political scene, there is a sense of optimism and freshness that he brings, and I do indeed hope that gives us all a sense of hope for the future.

What is wonderful, is that an African American has become President and as Obama said himself, it shows that 'in America all things are possible!'  Whilst there has been some negative remarks about America being a place of which there is little to take pride in, this is certainly a huge moment.  Excuse me for harping yet again along a similar theme, but we have yet to see such a wonderful moment in our country, and indeed Europe in general.

At least too now, hopefully people will stop bashing Palin, some of the criticism in the press was justified, but alot of it was very disprectful and uncalled for.  Who knows, maybe we will be talking about a Palin v Obama election in four years time!

I hope Obama does a good job and will kick the Christian right wing into touch. I also hope that Palin crawls back under the stone from whence she crawled, never to emerge again! I reckon the Presidential election would have been much closer if McCain hadn't picked the pitbull with lipstick as his running mate. It showed a complete lack of judgement.

I was overjoyed when Barack Obama was elected Wednesday.  He'll move in in january, according to the Metro free newspaper.

But I do wish for a more family-friendly society.  Arrogance maybe his weakness and lead to rashness (as he reminds me, personality-wise, of arrogant contemporaries/aquaintances in my past).  He is reported to be enthusiastic to help deprived people in the past.  And he knows a lot about the US theories of law.  So he will have to have Godly/correct judgment to put it into practice his law-knowledge from worldly experiences!

I repeat, i am very excited!  But I fear that the US have chosen Barack Obama, a man who will look after people from an arrogant point-of-view, I mean, for themselves to look after themselves; it is better to enable people to maintain others.  Then again, Jesus said that one cannot maintain another unless one can maintain oneself, which makes two!

 God bless you all!

Danny Russell.

Danny, I'm surprised you thnk Obama is arrogant.

I thnk you are confusing a confident speaking manner with arrogance, and I cannot see why you think his policies might not be family friendly.

Danny: "Arrogance maybe his weakness and lead to rashness (as he reminds me, personality-wise, of arrogant contemporaries/aquaintances in my past)."

Which may be your past experience colouring your perceptions of the present - you shouldn't blame him for the failings of other people.

As to his personality - he has to have a certain degree of "push" to have got to where he is. You can call it being extrovert, or confident, or skilled/gifted, whatever. Arrogance is when it goes over the top, I'd say. Bit early to call him on that, isn't it?

Ok.  He seems very good!  But i think showyness and propaganda is part of that!  An it's fantastic!  And I agree that I might be mistaken that he might be (not arrogant and) aiming at good-change for the US.  In the description on the Yahoo News I posted earlier it said he had been influenced by a Christian relation growing up, so I hope that he is a doing good good and praying (to our God) person.

Danny.
