Rambler: "The message header said it was from this forum, Tony."
Of course it did. That's part of the scam - you are meant to think it is really to you, or really from someone you trust.. Did you look at the email message properties to see the innards? That often shows where it was really sent from, or at least displays some of the inconsistencies which reveal it as a scam (apart from the message, of course...)
It could have come from this forum, if someone has used sufficiently developed technology to harvest email addresses. But that is a bit more technical than someone inflitrating for the purposes of scamming the people they meet onlist.

| There has been so much publicity about these things - that's why I wondered whether they ever made money. Having said that, another forum I belong to frequently has people saying they have received what are obviously phishing emails - but they seem not to know this and think they are being helpful telling the rest of us. How can anyone not know, at least in developed countries? Just sent myself a test message from the forum and it shows my email address in both the to and from fields. How can you hide it?

Nothing. It's not a virus - just someone hoping to get a reply and some action from a gullible victim hoping to make some dollars.

| Bin it. It's harmless rubbish. If you're at all worried, make sure your anti-virus and anti-spyware definitions are up to date and do a scan. There are binloads of this stuff circulating - I've been offered cut-price software and hardware, exclusive offers on medications which I don't need and surgery I don't want, as well as notifications of prizes from lotteries I never entered and legacies from people I don't know. I bin them all and get on with my life.

Tony, you are Captain Sensible! I got the same message and binned it too. Ran spyware and anti-virus software just to be on the safe side because I've never had spam on my fish account and all is well. Oh, must go and look at your pics on Facebook - I've been meaning to do that for AGES!

Just for today, dear Lord, let me realise that there is nothing that we cannot handle together - and may I pray the same prayer tomorrow.....
